Our Story

From Hinge to happily-ever-after (or something like that)

We met one Sunday morning at a coffee shop in Oakland. John played drums at a gig the night before and arrived a bit late. He said that I looked disappointed when he walked in, but it’s only because I couldn’t tell who he was with his hat on! When he took off his hat, I saw his face, and gave a big smile. Our morning coffees lasted through the afternoon, and haven’t ever really stopped. John only left that day because he had plans to watch the Super Bowl at his brother’s house. Needless to say, it was a win for Kansas City.

From then

We moved into a rental in Oakland, and eventually bought that same house, which, if you’ve seen it, has a putting mat as an entryway rug, a hoarder’s dream of houseplants and coffee mugs and clothes, a music studio, writer’s room/home office, and a garage gym lovingly known as Van Damme Alley II.

We’ve made space for each other’s foibles. A necessity, and a joy, when moving in together in almost middle age.

To now

It was tough to find a wedding venue that felt like us. But when we toured Dawn Ranch, we knew right away that we wanted to share it with our friends and family.

Dawn Ranch exudes that sweet energy of summer camp—with high end amenities, of course—and who better to go to camp with than all our favorite people? Surrounded by the beauty of redwoods, and with the Russian River lazing down the property, we couldn’t imagine a better place to say I do.
